Confession: I listened to my first ever podcast episode when Serial hit the scene in 2014. Could I be any more basic? I’ve become a bit of a podcast fanatic since then, several road trips from LA to San Francisco, LA to Cleveland, and Cleveland to Chicago later. I’m a huge nerd and I miss being in a classroom on the daily, so it’s not that surprising that my favorite podcast episodes are educational and philosophical. Learning new things and hearing new perspectives is now my favorite way to pass the time in the car, on the bus, on my walks around Chicago, you name it.
I was super overwhelmed by podcasts at first because there are so many shows and I didn’t know how to find speakers that I would enjoy. I’m still VERY new to exploring different shows and hosts, so if you’ve got recommendations, find me in the comments! I want to know who you love listening to!
If you’re a wellness aficionado, a fan of psychology, or curious about the wellness podcast space, I’ve rounded up five of my all-time favorite episodes from five different podcast shows below. Have you given any of these episodes a listen? I’d love to hear your thoughts down in the comments!
EPISODE 209: SHOW UP BEFORE YOU’RE READY FT. GLENNON DOYLE MELTON
First of all, I love Liz Gilbert. Like a lot. She is my wellness hero. Weirdly enough, this podcast episode was my introduction to Glennon Doyle Melton who is also just an amazing and inspiring woman. This episode dives into Glennon’s path to Momastery and her mission to live and love authentically and to be a shameless truth-teller. This episode inspired me to change the focus of my blog from fitness and baking to wellness and mental health. Showing up before you’re ready is a courageous act. Listen to this podcast if you need that little push to do the things that set your soul on fire.
EPISODE 100: ELIZABETH GILBERT INTERVIEWS ROB BELL
This episode was recommended to me by a friend who ALSO loves Liz Gilbert. I listened to this hour and 20 minute episode while on a hike and there are SO many nuggets of amazing advice and life lessons. Liz Gilbert is a friend of Rob Bell and it’s so clear that she is also a fan of his. She asks him really great questions, some of which you can tell are difficult for Rob to answer (particularly one question on the topic of forgiveness). But the real beauty of this episode lies in Rob’s stories and experiences. He is a great story-teller, and he’s such an eloquent speaker. The lightning round at the end is really great, too, so make sure to stick around to hear Rob talk about liberation, consolation, transformation, etc. Listen to this podcast if you’re going through a life transition.
EPISODE 018: FINDING A JOB YOU LOVE WITH ALAINA KACZMARSKI OF THE EVERYGIRL
Major entrepreneur crush on Jenna Kutcher. If you’re a fellow blogger, I’m sure you know why. Jenna’s podcast is an incredible resource for small-business owners, bloggers, creatives who are looking to grow their reach and stay true to themselves. I love this episode of the Goal Digger podcast because 1. who doesn’t love The Everygirl?! 2. Alaina’s story is super cool. Hearing how she created this brand from the ground-up is so inspiring. Listen to this podcast if you need a little boost on the power of perseverance.
EPISODE 197: WHAT I’M DOING TO MANIFEST AND PREPARE FOR MY FUTURE PARTNER
I honestly could (and should) listen to this episode every day. I’m having a tough time being a single girl in a new city when I feel so much that it’s time for me to be in a relationship. Trying to appreciate where I am in this journey of my single status can be hard to remember, especially when I feel like I’m ready to meet my person. Whether you drink the kool-aid on Jess’s unconventional advice or not, this episode is an amazing reminder that what you are seeking already exists. Listen to this episode if you’re having trouble practicing patience in the area of love and relationships.
EPISODE 4: AN HONEST CONVERSATION ABOUT DATING WITH JENN ORCUTT
If you don’t follow Georgie’s blog, In It For The Long Run, you need to get your booty over to her site ASAP. I absolutely love all of her content. She’s one of those bloggers that you feel like you know on a personal level, even if you’ve never met her, because her social media presence is so authentic and personal. ANYWAY, I loveeee this episode of her Chasing Joy podcast because it combines my two favorite topics to talk about: mental health and dating. Jenn and Georgie talk about online dating, dating when you have a mental health disorder and accepting help and support from your partner. I relate so, so heavily to everything Jenn is saying about forcing relationships when you’re feeling lonely. Listen to this episode if you’re online dating or dating with a mental health disorder.
So there you have it: my five favorite podcast episodes for times when you need a little pep talk. Have you listened to any of these episodes? Have any episodes you’re dying to share? Let me know in the comments below!
