A raw vegan restaurant, a juice bar, a yoga studio and a small shop area with products from local business owners. Add these elements together and you get The Springs in downtown Los Angeles. Located in the trendy, up-and-coming healthy mecca of DTLA (its neighbors are Zinc Café, Blue Bottle Coffee, Café Gratitude and LA Boulders), The Springs is the perfect place to order a smoothie and catch up with friends after hitting a yoga class. The space is also an excellent venue for small meetings and an ideal location for setting up shop solo for an afternoon to get some work done.
Perks of The Springs:
It’s huge!: The space is a sort of converted warehouse with an open floor plan. There are several different seating areas at the space, which lends itself to more private conversations and more space to spread out at large community tables.
Parking: There is a small (and free!) parking lot adjacent to the building—always a huge perk in Los Angeles.
The smoothies: I’ve never had a bad smoothie here. My personal favorites are Scout’s Honor (pineapple, banana, strawberry, almond milk, vanilla powder and lucuma) and Big Dipper (banana, almond milk, walnut butter, maca, lucuma, cinnamon, vanilla powder, coffee beans).
You never feel rushed: My favorite aspect of The Springs is that it is a community space. You can come in, order some food, settle into a table and stay there all afternoon. I find it to be a very productive space because it’s not as chaotic or crowded as the majority of coffee shops in LA.
Don’t forget it’s also a yoga studio: Admittedly, I still have not tried the yoga at The Springs, but I’ve heard good things from friends! Drop-in classes are $15 a pop, but make sure to check out the schedule beforehand for $5 community class offerings and free meditation classes.
As someone who is TERRIBLE at getting any work done in their apartment, my appreciation for The Springs is endless. If I attempt to work at home, I usually end up taking a nap (sad, but true). I find coffee shops distracting, and I feel badly for taking up a table at a café when servers could be making more money with other customers. Libraries are great, but they don’t serve you delicious smoothies at the library!
