Looking for a studio that will turn your whole body to jelly and keep you laughing throughout? Training Mate, located in the heart of West Hollywood, is a HIIT (high-intensity interval training) workout that operates in cycles of 45 seconds per exercise. Its team of Australian trainers is famous for their endless energy and corny jokes.
I love everything about this studio. It’s one of my favorite finds from my Classpass days, and I know I wasn’t the only Classpass-er who felt this way, as it was a battle snagging those class spaces!
The team: The front-desk team is by far one of the friendliest, most welcoming crews I’ve encountered at a studio in LA. I tend to take the 6am classes, and the staff make you feel so happy about your decision to get up, have some fun, and get your workout done. The energy that the trainers have at 6am is unbelievable. Also, the playlists are awesome, so kudos to whomever whips those together.
The workout: I know when I go to Training Mate that I am going to have my ass kicked and I’ll feel great when I leave 45 minutes later. Isn’t that what we all want out of our workouts? Training Mate organizes their workouts by day of the week. For example, Monday is Bondi Burn (arms), Tuesday is Thunder Down Under (legs and butt), Wednesday is Mighty Mate (total body), etc. Thunder Down Under is undeniably my favorite of the workouts. I love the circuit set-up of the workouts that allow you to push yourself for 45 seconds before moving on to another exercise. You know that feeling when you can’t really sit down on the toilet because your leg muscles are so sore? Yeah, you’ll have that if you attempt a Thunder Down Under class.
The space: The gym is a great space. They have a small apparel section near the checkout desk, free towels, and then the main floor area. At the end of every workout, the mates take it outside to the back patio area for some ab work. Parking, as with any West Hollywood studio, can be kind of a pain, but I always manage to snag a meter near the studio. Watch out for street cleaning! The studio is also conveniently a neighbor to Whole Foods and Starbucks.
The takeaway: Love a workout that mixes weight-lifting with cardio? Training Mate is a must-try.
The price: You first class at Training Mate is free! After that, you can purchase single classes for $25. Book your first class here.
